For years I really had no competition but lately I have noticed some similar products on the market. Of course all designs on the market are supported in the back by screws or nails that go into the wall studs. It is the front of the shelf that is supported differently. One product is supported from below where the supports can get in the way of your normal activity. A couple of others are supported from the joists above. I actually started out with this support system 14 years ago but quickly saw that there was a better way. The joists are only 1.5 inches wide and therefore the bolt must be inserted directly in the middle of that 1.5 inches. Plus the joists were designed to hold the contents above the joists--they were not designed for supporting anything below them. And the joists are generally all going in one direction while you may be installing shelves on walls that are perpendicular to one another.

The wire cage things I see on the market are dangerous for the same reason--they must be screwed into the 1.5 inch joists. I would not want such a product in my garage. I would not feel safe.

I use the top of the wall to support the Big Shelf with pieces of thick angle iron extending to the front of the shelf. I have found it to be the perfect solution. Personally, I would not consider using the joists for support. As I said, I discontinued that approach over 10 years ago, primarily because of safety concerns. There is no way that any product on the market can compare to the strength and safety of the Big Shelf. My product has been approved by a professional engineer who has put his seal on the design. I actually over-engineer his over-engineering. The point is to make it as safe and reliable as possible. I have been doing it a long time so any bugs were worked out long ago.
